On the New Balance 1300JP
a pretty cool shoe..
i was originally enamored with the New Balance 1300JP. reading up on it on sites like High Snobiety, i loved the idea of one shoe you could wear for the rest of your life. the fact that the shoe is a faithful recreation of its original form, it's like a vintage watch or car.
to me, owning this shoe was a declaration that I don't give into trends and am willing to invest in something that was never broken and never will break.
when i found the 1300jp in my size for a good price, i was happy to finally be a part of the club. to hold in my hands this piece of history and join the exclusive club of people who actually care about this shoe. i wouldn't say i was immediately disillusioned. i liked this shoe a lot for a long time. it's only when five years passed and i realized it was already time for the next iteration of this shoe did i realize that i barely wore my last one at all. i didn't embody the persona presented to me when selling me this shoe.
because of that i realize i'm just the person this shoe is made for. i wanted to be that person because i wanted a reason to invest effort in adding this shoe to my collection. but i'm really just not. and so i'm ok with letting this one go and being able to admire its mere existence in the world. it's a wonderful shoe, and i feel like anyone could wear it. i just went through too much to get it.
